- The starting point is the ICEL website where the chant scores - essentially as they will appear in the Missal - are provided.
- The next step, especially for those not as skilled in reading music/singing music 'from sight', is to listen to recordings of these chants. It is important to note that while the following list of resources generally provide a good guide to how to sing the new chants, they are not necessarily 'definitive' - indeed there is a degree of variation between them.
- National [American] Association of Pastoral Musicians;
- Church Music Association of America;
- Pontifical North American College;
- And With Your Spirit (a double CD for purchase, made by a UK church music publisher);
- ** Episcopal Ordination at St Patrick's Cathedral, Melbourne on 23 June 2011 (many of the Missal chants are used here as part of an actual Mass - Dr Geoffrey Cox is the Director of Music, and Archbishop Denis Hart the main celebrant). This is VERY illuminating as it shows how well congregations can respond to the new words/chants (a) where the celebrant is interested, well prepared and competent and is therefore able to sing the invitations well, and (b) where the responses are led well. It also shows how an organ accompaniment can be used effectively to support the Missal chants - nota bene those regions which have not yet introduced the whole Order of Mass).
- Links to further resources will be added in due course.
The Acolyte's Tale is designed to bring to the attention of fellow Catholics interesting stories, pictures and videos, mostly in relation to liturgical affairs and Catholic music.
