Out of Hibernation + Selected Easter Music Lists in London
A blessed Easter to all, and greetings again after a gargantuan hiatus.
A six year gap means a lot to catch up on, and a summary of some highlights during that time I will at least attempt in the coming weeks. Not least, the situation (now much happier than when last reported) regarding Westminster Cathedral Choir, a not infrequent subject of this blog since its inception (the blog's, that is).
The blog will carry on largely as it used to: with interesting content, chosen at my sole discretion, relating to Catholic liturgical matters.
We have a new-ish tennis-playing Pope (we love Leo), who sings the right stuff at the right time during the liturgy.
We have a brand-new Archbishop of Westminster (the first thing that caught my attention when his name was announced was his four decade-long association with Pluscarden Abbey in the north of Scotland, where he has been an oblate). So a singing Archbishop, steeped in Benedictine monastic tradition. That all sounds promising! I briefly met him after his first Sunday Mass as Archbishop, and he seemed lovely.
Old favourites continue to shine brightly:

First cab of the rank:
Musically, this is part of what is on offer in (Catholic) London for what remains of Holy Week + Easter. Plenty of other options too, like St. James Spanish Place, St Gerorge's Cathedral Southwark, etc etc. I just haven't quite had the time to do a full compilation.
